Luiz Alves artisanal cachaça (sugarcane liquor) producers in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina created APCALA, the Luiz Alves Artisanal Cachaça Producers Association. Luiz Alves is the Land of Cachaça. It is a city in Santa Catarina state with just over 12 thousand inhabitants that is in the tourist region known as “Costa Verde and Mar“. Along with ten other cities it makes up the “European Valley”. Its main attraction is the stills that produce the famous oldest artisanal cachaça in the country, mostly founded between the 30’s and 40’s of the last century. Interestingly, besides the cachaça it is part of their culture to produce a molasses brandy, flagship of Santa Catarina production.
The challenge that the Cachaça Producers Association proposed to us was to create a strong visual identity that communicates the institution itself clearly and attractively. The element that best identifies the craft production of cachaça itself is the still, equipment used in the distillation of the beverage since the beginning of production. We used the design of the still with a trace that refers to the artisanal craft and the leaves of sugar cane as a graphic support element. We chose colors that refer to the natural, rustic and handmade like green and brown to convey this characteristic of artisanal cachaça produced in Luiz Alves.
Along with the logo and the application manual of the brand were created stationery, certification seal of cachaça, banners for social media and internet ads, among others. We also created the brand identity of the Rota da Cachaça project that can be seen by clicking here.
